Through documenting the city’s ongoing history of harms alongside contemporary impacts, the research aims to build a case to support reparative strategies for local Black residents.
For this project, Isidor Studio collaborated with the Embrace Boston team to lead the design strategy and full graphic production for the final publication. Our design process sought to elevate the organization’s brand through a design direction that communicated a bold and dynamic message, while still presenting the dense research in an accessible format. Throughout the report, large collage imagery and color are utilized as visual queues to break up the report sections. Additionally, Isidor Studio worked closely with the client team to research images and archival documents, develop data-driven infographics, and design additional supporting visuals.
Preserving African American Places seeks to understand the implications of place-based injustice and their impact on the preservation of African American cultural heritage, as well as to identify preservation-based strategies for equitable growth and development that respect the historical and present-day realties and conditions of African American Neighborhoods.
